What is the Christian Church?

Central Christian Church emerged from a movement in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s that wanted to do away with many of the man-made ideas and beliefs in the Christian world, and return to the Bible as the only authority for Godly living. The name of this movement is the “Restoration Movement”.

The churches within this movement, including Central, try to imitate the New Testament principles found in the Bible. That’s why we:

  • call ourselves Christians (Acts 11:26
  • baptize by immersion (Matthew 3:16, Acts 2:38)
  • observe communion every week (Acts 20:7)
  • use the Bible as our ultimate authority (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • center our preaching around Christ (Acts 5:42, Romans 16:25, 1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
  • share our faith with those who don’t know Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19)
  • help people grow in their faith (Matthew 28:20)

We are an independent church free of synods, presbyteries, and any other hierarchical structures. Elders and staff oversee the work of the church, but encourage everyone to be involved and serve where God want them to work and serve (Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Corinthians 12:18).

One of the sayins used within the Restoration Movement is “in essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love.” Our goal is to be united as Christians in areas where Biblical teaching is clear. In matters of opinion, there must be tolerance as long as those opinions don’t go against Scripture. God’s love for us (John 3:16) is the motivation for everything we do.

We are not a perfect church. We are not perfect people. We are sinners saved by grace doing the best we can, with God’s help, to be the type of followers God wants us to be.
